About Hatch, a creative-reuse art festival

Hatch, as the only creative-reuse art festival in Illinois and is produced by The I.D.E.A. Store, a Champaign, Illinois-based creative-reuse marketplace and the social earned-income enterprise of the Champaign Urbana Schools Foundation. The Festival will celebrate its 3rd year this year and is going strong. this year features 11 events (the Festival Schedule) and counting including a juried art fair and juried art exhibition, special lectures, music and artists-in-residence, David and Roberta Williamson, who will work with local school students and provide workshops to the public while visiting.

The Hatch Committee is made up of hard-working volunteers on the Steering Committee who have a multitude of talents along with many volunteers who have taken on special tasks.  Everyone just pitches in to make this a really cool community event.  So here is the list not in any particular order:

So, where is it?  The festival is several events over 2 weeks and 3 weekends!  And, it is all in Champaign County, IL.  Our events are happening all over the community.

Important dates to get on your calendar!

Are you an artist that is interested in the juried exhibition?  or the art fair? Or both?  The date for entry to the festival has come and gone. Make sure you mark your calendars to make the deadline of November 16, 2015 for the 2016 festival!

Hatch 2015 kicks off with a fantastic opportunity to hear David and Roberta Williamson, this year’s artists-in-residence from Ohio speak at the Champaign Public Library on February 26, 2015. The following night, February 27, 2015, we will hold the 2nd annual TRASHION Show at Lincoln Square.  The opening reception of the 3rd Hatch Art Exhibition will be on Saturday, February 28, 2015.  It will be open to the public with tickets at $5 per person. As in the past it will be held in the Indi Go Artist Co-op, 9 E. University Ave., Champaign. The juried exhibition will highlight the Williamson’s work and will feature repurposed art and functional design by some of the Midwest’s most innovative creative-reuse artists and designers. Exhibited work will range from assemblage, collage, jewelry, fiber and paper arts to re-imagined objects for home and garden. The Hatch 2015 exhibition will continue through March 14, 2015.  Exhibition pieces will be for sale with a portion of the sales supporting the Festival and The I.D.E.A. Store.

Another exciting component of Hatch 2015 is a juried all-day art fair on Saturday, March 14 where artist-vendors will offer all manner of creative-reuse art for sale.  In the Activity Room at the Center, our Community Creative-reuse Hatch Show will have YOUR work on display! The art fair and Community Show will take place from 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. in the gymnasium of the Savoy Recreation Center, 402 Graham in Savoy, Illinois. This fantastic day culminates what promises to be an exciting 2 weeks of activities surrounding the concept of creative-reuse of materials found in our everyday lives.
